Youth Event - LZ7

So who are these LZ7 guys i was rattling on about in the last post?

Well the reason i wanted to bring you attention to them is simple: in my opinion i think they were exactly what i have imagined in my head as the "tool" or the way to get young people interested in Christianity.

They were fresh/urban/cool/gangsta and full of energy and attitude thatwas so modern you couldnt help nod your head and want to get involved.

there stage act is 1000% pure energy and madness. Some of the youtube clips show them jumping off blocks in to the crowd.. completly mad :P lol they had some great tunes and great rapping by the main guy - 'Lindz'

How would i sum up their music? "progressive, hard hitting, catchy tunes with a Rocky / Grime / Hip Hop flavour." The kids can relate to this and in a fresh and "street" way. The LZ7 guys nailed it and were spot on.

So yeah LZ7 impessed me as i thought they were bang on the money on how they presented them selves. There was no chance of any steroetyping going on here saying 'oh no not another christain band'... haha

They kept the "God bit" simple and uncomplex and not in your face. Somthing that i think is very important if you are to win the youth off the street over. There were no long sermons or pushing bible verses out like they are free candy. they kept it simple with a few testomonies from their members who hadcome from rough drug backgrounds and how they had changed and see how life is so much more than that.

Kids are more likley to listen to some one young giving the real word on the street and how they have changed than an adult reading a passage from a bible and then talking about it for 30 min..

This last vid really proves what i have been saying above :) no christian sterotyping scaring pple off here. I mean if you think about the London Schools and some of the other areas of Britian - these guys need something new and fresh to keep their minds occupied and seeing LZ7 do just that was great.

I had massive respect for them taking the word of the lord out on to the streets and keeping it fresh and modern to todays young people.

::MARLOW YOUTH PROJECT::

As promised here is the update. And what a lot of good news it contains! Sooo excited about the whole thing. probably since my last comments its all really rolling - so have a read of the below.. an of course any questions or you want to know more just drop me an email!! youth@morethansunday.co.uk or on here :P

=CRYPT=
The project went a bit quiet around the christmas break as its a busy time for the church and everyone so really the work on the crypt slowed down around then and into the new year. However i am pleased to write that the crypt looks amazing now and has that finished look to it! here is the proof :P

Check out the website!!! its amazing.. and will providea great platform to show off the crypt and more importantly be a contact base for the activities that will be taking place.

Yes thats right.. the logo is there in its final and bold form!! Took a fair few months to be finalised and produced to a professional quality but its here and here to stay! We rested on this logo due to the clarity of the font and of the message of what it is. Not many pple will know what a crypt is but hopefully our logo will give the impression of a youth space to chill out/cafe style setup. In other words the writing on the logo was very important for its clarity.

=YOUTH WORKER=
We have our appointed Youth Worker for marlow! Welcome along Stewart Grenyer!
I have been working with Stewart on the Sunday night group. Now formally known as BETA :P (started life as the Youth Forum for the eyes and input on the whole project!) We have been getting the guys involved in the crypt and lately have been going through the CY course with them which is a great refreseher course to the basics of christianity. And is always a fun sunday evening group for fellowship, learning and fun.

And we have an away day planned for the weekend of the 9th may which will provide a awsome day out doing some activities at the Green belt activity site - so fun and games all round there on the high ropes course and much more im sure!

=OTHER ACTIVITIES=
Stewart has really hit the ground running in his new role in marlow and while waiting the crypt to be completed hasnt stood still for one moment. he has been around the schools networking and also out in the community.
And also setting up loads of events and getting groups ready for when the crypt launches. The youth band Stewart has put together played for the first time at the new Combined Youth Service last month. The service was for all the youth of the marlows churches and was branded "ignite!" A great evening and some rwally good live music and talks made for an awsome evening and a sign of great tihings to come!

Hi all - sorry for my lack of updates. its been a busy time for us all on and off the youth project.
I owe you guys a huge update ... so hold tight as here it comes! - ill create a new thread in a moment!

UPDATE: The project comes together

I have been working on this project for several months as part of the Youth Forum and am really excited now at how fast the project is moving forward. The physical work on the crypt (decorating etc..) might begin as early as the end of this month and all of the hardware and furniture has been bought already with the generous funding we have received.

Furthermore, 80% of the money required for a full time professional youth worker to work in Marlow for 3 years has been secured. We are looking into organising a weekend trip to an activity centre to get to know the Youth Worker a little better.

This is what the crypt looks like at the moment – as you can see it has been pretty much cleared but is still in need of a lick of paint! The crypt seems to get bigger every time that I go in, and I am sure that we will have space for all of the stuff we have bought and still have room for people to relax.

This photo shows the total space we have. A large TV for films etc... will be at one end, with a bar at the end opposite end. There will be a pool table in the centre and games consoles in the alcoves in the either side. Of course, there will be very comfy chairs around too for conversation and relaxation. There is the possibility of holding events in the crypt too, like a Battle of the Bands.

This is the entrance (looking quite spooky!). There will be a security camera to keep the area safe and the door will be reinforced/replaced.

As this picture shows, the transformation should be fantastic. This is taken from a similar place, and shows what kind of a space we are aiming for. I think ours should be better, with games consoles and high quality furniture and better decoration.

Crypt Cafe already setup in London Church

The above is a lovely church we visited called St Martin-in-the-Fields in Trafalgar Square-London.
It too has a crypt and they have converted it to a large fully functioning cafe! complete with elaberate street entrance!
Our community group visited it on Sat as we were in london.
They have laods more space to work with when compared to All Saints - There ceiling is normal height which lends itself towards the larger spread of tables and chairs and a more fuller catering service.
However you dont get the cosy atmosphere that Marlow crypt will create which i think is a plus point - they had exposed a lot of the brick work and sanded it down which i think looked really great. hoefully tese pics will give some ideas and insiration for the decor for marlow crypt!

Youth Crypt Project

Hi all - sorry for my lack of blogging. It has been a busy few months since my last post!
Hopefully this slightly larger update will keep you all in the loop!

Heres some of the key events the youth have been involved in:

- Designed and produced a Questionnaire about the current Youth amenities in Marlow. The survey they then carried out on nealry 100 young community members of Marlow to find out thir thoughts on marlows current activities for the youth - or lack of them. The quaestionnaire also allowed them to collect some vey usful demographic data and highlight the areas where marlow falls short in catering for the young folk of the town.

- Organised and hosted a HOLLYWOOD DISCO party - to raise awareness and pitch ideas about the crypt

Since these iniial fact finding and awareness gathering events we have had a fair few meetings discussing:
= What needs to happen to make the crypt workable
= the Items to go in the crypt
= The budget and funding for the work
= The layout and what the different areas of the crypt could be used for

I will post some pictures on here after this update

and this week we have started discussing the Code of conduct and the rules and
regulations that should govern the youngsters behaviour and use of the crypt.So some very important documents to be drawn up with the ideas and inoput coming from the youth forum steering group.

The Youth Forum has been very busy and we have had so much support and encourngement it has been great!
